It's Raining! Correspondence with Arul...

My name is Arul,

I speak from your distant past. I live in day and time long ago before the world changed.  Life here has been going on for a long time unchanged. I cannot even begin to imagine your world. Surely it is much different from the world I’ve known for the past 657 years of my life.  I have born numerous children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many more offspring stemming from the women I have known.

Our world is beautiful with lush vegetation, sun, moon, and stars fill the sky.  Life goes on, children are born, we till the soil providing food stuffs, forests lush and green bear many fruits for food, many live near sea and harvest abundant foods therein, those of us inland find food from the many spoils hunting and killing animals.

Animals great and small exist here. In our skies fly great winged creatures larger in size than a man. They are good for eating. Terrain here is universally climatic, never changing, plants grow in abundance finding water flowing up from the soil. We have fire, plants bearing fruit, leaves, and seed in abundance for food. All needs are met. This is the world as we know it.

My family has multiplied as have countless others. I’m told that this world exists in the same manner far beyond and all around earth. There is a man, Noah and his family who live near to my family.  They have been good neighbors and friends.

Noah spoke to us of a God declaring Him to be creator of our world and that this God was displeased with mankind. He told us God would rain down His judgment on earth.  I respect Noah but didn’t understand his message and deeply pondered what he meant.

Many years passed as we watched Noah and his sons build something huge from large timbers hewn from the land.  It was an amazing spectacle to behold the enormous take shape over the years.  All the while, Noah, determined this was his destiny to build what he called an ark.

Noah spoke of a coming destructive deluge flood and reshaping of the earth we had know always to be our peaceful habitat.  He declared that the maker of the heavens and the earth would rain down destructive judgment on the earth.

Hundreds of years past as we beheld Noah and his son’s construct his ark. We were amazed by the industrious result of his vision all the while puzzled as to his motivation and reason for such an immense undertaking.  While we all were busy simply living and enjoying life, this man, Noah stood out among us being determined to create his ark.

After all the years of watching Noah and his sons work diligently, the enormous structure neared completion.  We beheld animals gather from far and wide soon to enter the ark.  I have seen many creatures but had never before seen a sight such as the parade of life great and small enter Noah’s ark.

Thousands of people gathered around to witness this event and we were stunned when the last of the animals entered the ark and its door closed without aid of hands.  A hush fell over the crowd.

Suddenly the ground on which we stood began to tremble with a great shaking.  A thunderous noise filled the air.  Birds all around swiftly took flight.

Running home to be sure my family were safe, the sky become darkened by smoke spewing from the tops of hills.  I had never seen such a sight before.  The ground beneath my feet trembled and quaked moving up and down while running to be protect my family.  Formerly, familiar solid ground was now almost liquid beneath my feet. Animals all around cried out running to and fro.

The shaking of the ground quickly increased to the point that no home could stand.  Trees fell, causing chaos all around. One could barely stand while our once peaceful earth erupted in upheaval.  Both man and beast stumbled and fell. Loud sounds from the heavens continued to deafen our ears.

I found my family in terror huddled together barely able to stand upright outside our home now in shambles having been shaken to the ground. We witnessed the darkening clouds above and suddenly water began to pour down from the skies.  The very sight alone caused fear and dread.  Nothing like this had ever happened before.  Barely able to walk on once firm ground, we ran from our homes on familiar paths heaving and breaking apart under our feet.

Water fell from the sky in great proportion to our amazement. Familiar bodies of water swelled, overflowed flooding all around. We ran best we could to higher ground to witness a great swirling swelling debris filled waters rise higher and higher.  The shower of water from above continued falling with deafening sound.

I found found shelter for my family in a familiar cave on nearby hillside.  We were not alone in the cave as we discovered fire and light finding others therein seeking shelter.  The solace was temporary.  Great terrorizing flashes of light filled the sky outside casting our shadows deep within the cavern.  Falling waters and tumult of the heaving writhing earth continued.  The cave walls shook back and forth and rocks fell from above.

The rising water outside began to enter the cave.  Observing great floating masses of animal carcasses and vegetation swarming on the waters struck all the more fear into our already terrified hearts. 

Soon the shelter of the cave would be swamped.  Many of us fled outside to endure the pounding of the huge fall of water from above as we sought higher ground.

Darkness fell on us while water continued pouring down as I led my family and some others out of the flooding cave to higher ground lest we drown.  It was difficult to see and navigate our path. All I knew was to go up seeking higher ground.  Soon our efforts ended when reaching the summit of the hill clinging together in the torment of water falling to await our fate.

Water continued pouring down. It was dark night now. On the few remaining grounds above the rising waters we were buffeted all around by waves of water bearing huge masses of floating debris bearing whole trees, animal carcasses, and even the bodies of friends and neighbors that had perished.

Time is short now as my doom quickly looms. Listen to what Noah spoke.  God's words were true. 

Water is rising. There is little to no land remaining to support us. Water continues pouring forth from the sky and the earth continues to shake. The God that made this world has now destroyed it.  May your world acknowledge the warning of Noah. Heed his words lest you also perish.

I write from your distant future many generations hence.  Our world bears scars from the tumult you experienced.  Enormous caverns vividly display record of the receding waters from the huge deluge you wrote of.  Mountainous lands reach high in the sky the peaks of which inhabit the clouds.

Climate is not uniform as you knew it.  We have inhospitable hot and cold within course of a year.  Huge bodies of water we call oceans now separate what we call continents, the land on which we live.

Great frozen lands formed at the top and bottom of the earth when the rain ceased due to pronounced temporary lack of the element we call carbon dioxide.  The great frozen waters top and bottom of earth later melted as plant life began to flourish equalizing the atmosphere and weather system normalized.  Melting waters carried soil in their wake covering vast expanses of now fertile land suitable for agriculture feeding our world.  Rivers and lakes remain as the waters subsided.

The lush lands filled with fauna and flora once your habitat, were swept away in the deluge, crushed, and buried to become huge beds of coal and oil fuel that sustains life in our world now.  Rain is commonplace though nothing near what you experienced. God gave us colorful rainbows filling our sky as His promise that the world would never again be flooded.

Mankind endured from Noah’s progeny though life span is shortened to the point that a man of only 80 years old is now elderly.  Few of us live more than 90 years. 

6 billion people now populate our world divided into nations spread all around the earth. We have a life you could hardly imagine.  The earth has provided all we need through agriculture and great natural resources man has used to advance a technology that has taken us to the moon, the planets, and beyond.

The surface of earth endured enormous change due to the flood, volcanic eruptions, land mass deformation through raising of mountains, lowering of sea beds, and climatic change.  You would  not recognize earth now because of the dramatic change from the world you describe.

You wrote of Noah and his ark.  All religions now teach of the world wide destructive flood many referring to a man building a ship to protect mankind and animals from God’s destructive flood. God preserved His words revealed to His humble servants.  Many of whom were scorned in their day yet now celebrated as prophets declaring history and truth where we read about Noah and the flood and life thereafter.

Life endured. God is celebrated as creator among Noah’s decedents and those who have believed his words.

And this is where the testimony of the Biblical Deluge becomes so important!  For if the Bible record is true, most of the strata could not have been deposited over long ages of time under uniformitarian conditions but were laid down in the course of a single year under catastrophic conditions. The last refuge of the case for evolution immediately vanishes away, and the record of the rocks becomes a tremendous witness, not to the operation of a naturalistic process of Godless development and progress but rather to the holiness and justice and power of the living God of Creation!

And this is what the Flood was meant to be as far as its testimony to post-diluvian man is concerned.  Jesus Christ pointed back to the great Flood as a reminder of God's power over the world and as a foreshadowing of His future great intervention in judgment on a sinful and rebellious world in the last days (Matthew 24:37-39).

One may refer also to such passages as Luke 17:26,27, Hebrews 11:7, I Peter 3:20, and II Peter 2:5 for ample evidence that the New Testament writers regarded the Flood as a historical event of tremendous testimonial importance to modern man!

Especially pertinent and incisive is the remarkable passage found in II Peter 3:3-10 (A.V.), which we quote again, in entirety, because of its intense relevance to this situation:

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying.  Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long suffering to usward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Here again the Flood is used as a type and warning of the great coming worldwide destruction and judgment when the "day of man" is over and the "day of the Lord" comes. But the prophet is envisioning a time when, because of an apparent long delay, the "promise of his coming" is no longer treated seriously. It is to become the object of crude scoffing and intellectual ridicule. It will be obvious to "thinking men" in such a day that a great supernatural intervention of God in the world, as promised by Christ, is scientifically out of the question. That would be a miracle, and miracles contradict natural law!

And how do we know that miracles and divine intervention contradict natural law? Why, of course, because our experience shows and our philosophy postulates that "all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation"! This is what we call our "principle of uniformity," which asserts that all things even from the earliest beginnings can be explained essentially in terms of present processes and rates. Even the Creation itself is basically no different from present conditions, since these processes are believed to have been operating since even the "beginning of the creation." There is no room for any miracle or divine intervention in our cosmology; therefore, the concept of a future coming of Christ in worldwide judgment and purgation is merely naive!

Or so they say. "For . . . they willingly are ignorant of" two things! One is a real Creation. The heavens and earth were established "by the word of God" not by uniformitarian processes! Second, this first heavens (that is, the atmospheric heavens) and the first earth perished, being "overflowed with water."

Recognition of these two great events of history would immediately brand as false the great system of evolutionary pantheism. These events proclaim as from a mountaintop the fact of a personal Creator God, vitally and directly concerned with His creation, whose "longsuffering" will one day be exhausted and who will then bring this present earth to a fiery end in atomic disintegration!

And as we have seen, the evidence of the reality of these great events, the Creation and the Deluge, is so powerful and clear that it is only "willing ignorance" which is blind to it, according to Scripture!

Thus do the Creation (as attested to not only by Scripture but by the two great laws of thermodynamics) and the Genesis Flood as indelibly recorded in human histories and in the rocks of the earth constitute the paramount scientific negation of all man-centered philosophy and religion for those who will accept it for what it is.

And, according to the Biblical writer, there is a great and final personal challenge in this testimony.  To the man whose faith is centered in himself or his particular society, relying upon his own works for whatever salvation he seeks, the message is one of "coming to repentance" while there is time, since "God is long-suffering and not willing that any should perish." "For God so loved the world, that he save his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).

To the Christian the admonition is, as recorded in II Peter 3:11 (A.V.): Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness.  And the final word, as given in the last verses of the chapter, II Peter 3:17,18: Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.  But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen.
