"Yucatan Dream"
You never know what you’re going to dream
about when you go to sleep. Sometimes you remember a dream and
sometimes you don’t. But I’ll never forget this one.
I was in my early 30’s and deeply involved in church at the time. In
this dream I was on a mission from God. I was given a machete’ and
required to cut a path through miles of dense jungle and reach an important
destination in the Yucatan in Mexico. After hours of cutting thick vines and
other plant growth I had progressed only a few hundred feet. I was
exhausted yet determined for I was on a mission from God.
Suddenly my machete’ stuck solid stone through the dense jungle growth in my
path. I hastily cleared the overgrowth and discovered a huge stone
carving of a heathen Inca god about 12 feet tall, 8 feet wide and 4’ deep
blocking my path.
Tempted to go around this imposing figure I knew better. Intent on
discouraging me from reaching my destination, Satan had placed this obstacle
in my path. I was not about to be dissuaded by varying from the path.
What was I to do? This was an imposing figure. Square jawed and
frowning, its smug expression made me all the more determined to not let
this thing stop me.
I stood boldly before the obstacle and in my best preacher voice,
confidently commanded it to move in the name of Jesus. I had seen many
evangelists do this before and according to them the devil must flee at the
mention of the name of Jesus.
I was fully persuaded that I was about to see the demon flee making my path
clear so that I could reach the goal. The bible said it should be so.
The very foundation of my faith at that time was that demons would be cast
out, mountains cast into the sea, and every knee bow at the name of Jesus,
the name above all names.
Surely this was my time to evoke that lovely name. Guess what
happened? Nothing. Obviously I hadn’t done it right. I figured I
should try again but louder and really mean it. So I stood back and
with great gusto, commanded this thing to move in the name of Jesus Christ.
Again nothing happened. I tried again saying "In the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth". Still nothing happened.
I was not about to be discouraged so I shouted again and again louder each
time. Still nothing. Then God reached down and tapped me on the
shoulder. He said “come up here with me for a moment” and pointed down where
I saw the jungle from way up high. I could see where I had been standing and
I could see my destination at the end of the jungle. The stone Inca
god in my path was as small as an ant. I simply squashed it with my foot and
walked on quickly reaching my goal.
Think about it….
